Hello, my name is Adam Wernecke, and I am the artist who will be teaching the advanced painting classes at Studio 23 starting in September. I have lived in Bay City for the past 10 years, and have been working as a professional graphic designer and artist in the area for the last 8 years. I work in many fields of art including sculpting, painting, drawing, digital mediums, and design; however, painting is my passion. As an artists I am always looking to try new things, and share any knowledge I have with my fellow artists. Trying new media and techniques is a key component to each artist’s artistic evolution.
It is this evolution that I am most excited to be a part of when taking over Michelle Couriers classes. I have no plans on our subject matter in the class, I encourage students to work on the subjects that inspire them individually. The way in which Michelle taught color manipulation and composition is very different than my own. I exaggerate color beyond the scope of what is considered real. This emphasizes components of my work adding emotion and interest. I draw all of the individual parts of my paintings, so my images aren’t photorealism, but a culmination of eclectic ideas that come from my imagination.
I love the vast subject matter of Studio 23’s advanced painting student work, these are painters that are comfortable in their craft and are working towards becoming better at what they love. I plan on teaching the acrylic class with a real focus on building confidence and finding your own voice within your art. Meaning, I would like my students to begin to make decisions in their art based on their own intuition. There are no right or wrong choices. However, I do believe in working hard, and putting a maximum effort into your paintings.
