Make Your Watercolors Come Alive
Ken Austin, NSW
June 2 – 6, 2008

Five days watercolor and gouache resist technique - $375.00

Ken’s main interest in watercolor is in the exploration of color, pattern and expressive painting.  He is equally at home with representational or abstract painting, traditional or more experimental techniques.

“I teach by offering suggestions and solutions to IMPORVE a painting.  I tell beginners that you must be fearless to paint in watercolor.  The frailest and quietest of people surprise me with their strength in art- it never fails.  Classes need beginners (who know some basics) and advanced students who want more knowledge.  Advanced students need to see the beauty in paintings by those less experiences, and beginners need to learn how to analyze advanced work.

I never have a typical workshop because there is no typical class.  Each workshop is unique due to the locale and student makeup.  I like the student’s individual attitudes and their willingness to explore new areas of expression.  This only happens, I believe, when the teacher offers and expects new creative juices to flow.

Finally, we have a lot of fun in my classes.  I want the students to enjoy these learning experiences.  If they do they will go home wanting to paint more than ever before.”

Painting Expressive Still Life Florals
Janet Walsh, AWS
October 20-24, 2008

Janet Walsh is the President of the American Watercolor Society and has been conducting workshops for may years.  She is the author of “Watercolor Made Easy”.

Five Days - $435.00

($100 deposit required by August 15th.  Balance due by September 15, 2008)

A Janet Walsh workshop offers a unique opportunity for beginners as well as advanced painters to grow as aritists.  Watercolor and floral setups are used as “tools” top enter into the credataive process.  She begins the process each day with “warm-up” exercises, which provide an opportunity to become centered and to open creative blocks.  Using flowers as “live models”, Janet shares the thought processes that go into creating a floral setup.  Continuing with a “hands on’ approach, she guides students to consider value, shape, size, color, rhythm and composition in setting up their own individual bouquets.  Students are then encouraged to create paintings that ware based on their own sensor (sight, touch, smell) and intuitive responses.  Individual help ensures that each artist can accomplish what they want and encourages the individuality of each person’s artistic vision.  During the course of the week, Janet continues with lectures and demonstrations dealing with such elements as container, fabrics, backgrounds and finishing a painting.  Other creative exercises, such as collage are introduced to discover new ways to deal with problems.  Each student will have ample time to create, experiment, paint and have fun as they enjoy the camaraderie of fellow artists, individually and in the group.
