Lunch and Learn: Portfolio Development with Nick Reszetar

Learn the fundamentals to creating a successful artist portfolio with artist and arts educator Nick Reszetar. This program is a part of our Summer Solstice Art-a-thon.

Life-long artist and art educator Nick Reszetar holds his Master of Fine Arts degree from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Eastern Michigan University and an Associate Degree in photography from Washtenaw Community College.  He has lived in Michigan most of his life in Michigan, and now holds a full Professorship at the Savannah College of Art and Design, spending the school season along the gorgeous SE Atlantic Coast.  There he teaches drawing and design classes, and is the Lead Coordinator for the Gesture Jam Drawing Events at SCAD.  Back in his Michigan studio during breaks and summers, he works primarily in drawing, painting, and photography, and has experience with installation and graphic design work.  Much of his current work focuses on the figure, where he questions psychology, identity and human relationships.  Nick’s work has been in regional, national and international juried shows around the country, and has received awards and been published in various books and media outlets.

Studio 23 Artist Collective Presents: Matting and Framing Your Artwork

Join the Studio 23 Artist Collective for this hands-on workshop where we will learn to cut matboard for framing your artwork.

Registration includes one 24”x36” piece of black matboard and ‘scrap’ boards to practice cutting. The studio will supply matter cutter, blades, and acid-free tape for mounting and hinging. Artists must bring their own frames. Materials are non-archival. Artists wishing to use archival matte board should supply their own.

Cost for Members: $55

Cost for Non-Members: $65

Lecture: Storytelling with Rae Chesney

Author Rae Chesney will discuss the importance of storytelling about yourself as an artist and how to share your story with others. This program is a part of our Summer-Solstice Art-a-thon.

Rae Chesny is an award-winning social education expert, author, Johns Hopkins University Literary Consultant, and Zora Neale Hurston Scholar. Each year, she splits her time between researching, writing, and presenting on the literary great Zora Neale Hurston and writing her own titles of poetry, folklore, fiction, and creative fiction. Rae is a 2021 Baldwin House Urban Writer in Residence. She also served as the keynote speaker for the 2021 YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region Empowerment Symposium. Rae’s work has been published in Harness Magazine, and she has been featured in Made Magazine, Insider, and in several news stories. In 2022, she will release a children’s book entitled Zora’s Gardenand a memoir Dear Zora chronicling her journey into becoming a Zora Neale Hurston Scholar through research and travels while developing a love for the prolific writer in letter form conversations. Lunch & Learn: CV and Resume Development for Artists with Andrea Ondish

Bring a sack lunch and join Andrea Ondish as she guides us through creating an effective resume and CV, and explains the difference between them. This program is a part of our Summer Solstice Art-a-thon.

Andrea Ondish was raised in Northeast Pennsylvania. She received an AAS from Luzerne County Community College for Commercial Art-Graphic Design in 1980 and a BFA from Marywood University in Painting, Drawing, Printmaking and Illustration in 1985. After receiving her BFA degree she relocated to Illinois and earned a MA degree from Eastern Illinois University in Painting and Printmaking in 1986. She worked as a graphic designer for 3 years at a printing firm in Illinois and then moved to Indiana in 1989 to pursue an MFA at Indiana State University in printmaking graduating in 1992. In 1997 she became Programs and Exhibition Coordinator at the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute, IN. In 2001, Ondish accepted the position of Curator of Education at the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum, Saginaw Valley State University. She also part time faculty for the Saginaw Valley State University Art Department.

Summer Solstice Plein Air Paint Out Reception

This public reception will feature the artwork created during our Summer Solstice Plein Air Paint Out on Saturday, June 25th. Artists will spend Saturday outdoors painting the farms of Michigan Sugar. Artwork will be on display and for sale during the Sunday reception.

Summer Solstice Art-a-thon Plein Air Paint Out

Artists will spend the morning outdoors painting the farms of Michigan Sugar. Studio 23 will check in live through social media on location with artists as they create their work. Once paintings are complete, artist will meet at Studio 23 to frame and display their works of art. A reception will be held on Sunday, June 26.
