Learn more about The 100 Day Project for 2021. This global project is designed to build creative habits for artists, writers and musicians that will enhance their practice through the year. This info session is listed on our Facebook Events. It will be broadcast on Zoom and Facebook Live.
We will be drawing and rendering in full color a still life of fruit on fabric. You will be instructed on ways to set up your still life . Composition, design and light source is discussed as well as color theory.
This class does not teach you how to draw but rather how to better use the color pencils in your drawing. This class looks to build on your existing drawing skills.
Could a beginner do this? yes, however, if you are a beginner who has never drawn before and you want to start with colored pencils…..I would strongly suggest you use oranges to draw, to simplify everything for you.
Wednesday, May 27th, 2-5pm
$30 for members $40 for non-members
Supplies:
Set 24 or larger set of colored pencils
*(if you do not use Prismacolors and are getting cheaper or a different kind, please be aware that, in general, the smooth round wood pencils are softer than other types that have sides, like the pencils we used in school. The smooth round type blend better and you will be happier with final results, and have lots less frustration)
Pencil sharpener
70 to 80 pound paper, or colored pencil paper. size 12”x18″ or larger. colored paper is fine also if you want to experiment.
Colorless blender pencil
A piece of fabric and fruit of your choice, pears, apples, or oranges to draw from. (Real fruit works best instead of plastic)

Studio 23 is excited to offer Drawing Master’s Class with Armin Mersmann!
Experienced and advanced draughtsmen, comfortable in their technique, will learn to develop and enhance their personal artistic language. Focus and intent of an artist’s drawings are fluid and change over time – the end goal is not to execute that “perfect drawing”. This is not an assignment-based class and any drawing medium is permitted and expected. You will set personal goals and using a series of drawings strive to move your artistic language forward. As a class we will discuss the strengths and weakness of student work and objectives through engaging critiques; the class will include learning through demos as well.
Join renowned artist Armin Mersmann and immerse yourself into a week-long study of drawing and the art of observation. We all see the world around us, but do we really look, take in the forms, shapes, and structures as an artist does? Just relying on our memory alone does not suffice. Light, shadow, and details are hard enough to replicate when they’re right there in front of you. If you must invent them or try to go from memory, they appear even less convincing. Learn the difference between observational realism and intellectual realism by drawing what you see – not what you think you see.
Workshop runs Monday, August 26th through Friday, August 30th from 10am-4pm
Our YADA class is designed especially for teens to develop their skills, and connect with art, ideas, and other young people. Instructor Spencer Scharf will show you art basics while letting you explore with different mediums.
