The Art of B. B. Winslow

Studio 23 welcomes B. B. Winslow for this solo exhibition of colorful, mixed-media abstractions. Winslow’s composition juxtapose geometric motifs with atmospheric color fields, exploring his lifelong wonder about the infinity of the sky and his love of cloud forms.

Winslow earned the Master of Fine Arts (1988) in painting and art history from Pratt Institute, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Brooklyn, New York.  He earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts (1980) in painting and biology from Central Michigan University, School of Fine Arts.

He recently retired after 29 years at the Midland Center for the Arts, Midland, Michigan, where he served as Director and Curator of the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art.  His work has been exhibited in museums, art centers, and galleries across the Great Lakes states, while he has juried numerous exhibitions as well as speaking on various topics in contemporary art and art history.

Winslow is also a musician, singer/songwriter, having performed professionally since the 1970’s as a solo artist and with numerous bands.

Fiber: Four Voices, Diverse Vision

Artists invited to this invitational exhibit include C Joanne Grabinski, Carol Irving, Marti Liddle-Lameti, and Sally Rose. Each artist brings a unique creative process to the exhibit ranging from felting, weaving, organic installation, fashion, and needle art. The Rowley Gallery will be filled with color and texture!

Through the Eyes of a Child

When Don and Ashley Sabourin’s daughter received a camera for her fourth birthday, they were struck by the unique first-person perspective from the eyes of a 4-year-old in her photographs. She took photos of her friends that only another child could capture, and framed images of the world that she thought were interesting or important to her. They decided to provide cameras to see what children see and how they live, and to embrace the diversity of children in Bay County. Their photographs will show their unwritten life, with the hope of providing a better understanding of how they see the world.

Summer Solstice Plein Air Paint Out Reception

This public reception will feature the artwork created during our Summer Solstice Plein Air Paint Out on Saturday, June 25th. Artists will spend Saturday outdoors painting the farms of Michigan Sugar. Artwork will be on display and for sale during the Sunday reception.

This event is free and open to the public.

Summer Solstice Art-a-thon Plein Air Paint Out

Artists will spend the morning outdoors painting the farms of Michigan Sugar. Studio 23 will check in live through social media on location with artists as they create their work. Once paintings are complete, artist will meet at Studio 23 to frame and display their works of art. A reception will be held on Sunday, June 26.
