Learn the fundamentals to creating a successful artist portfolio with artist and arts educator Nick Reszetar. This program is a part of our Summer Solstice Art-a-thon.
Life-long artist and art educator Nick Reszetar holds his Master of Fine Arts degree from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Eastern Michigan University and an Associate Degree in photography from Washtenaw Community College. He has lived in Michigan most of his life in Michigan, and now holds a full Professorship at the Savannah College of Art and Design, spending the school season along the gorgeous SE Atlantic Coast. There he teaches drawing and design classes, and is the Lead Coordinator for the Gesture Jam Drawing Events at SCAD. Back in his Michigan studio during breaks and summers, he works primarily in drawing, painting, and photography, and has experience with installation and graphic design work. Much of his current work focuses on the figure, where he questions psychology, identity and human relationships. Nick’s work has been in regional, national and international juried shows around the country, and has received awards and been published in various books and media outlets.

Join the Studio 23 Artist Collective for this hands-on workshop where we will learn to cut matboard for framing your artwork.
Registration includes one 24”x36” piece of black matboard and ‘scrap’ boards to practice cutting. The studio will supply matter cutter, blades, and acid-free tape for mounting and hinging. Artists must bring their own frames. Materials are non-archival. Artists wishing to use archival matte board should supply their own.

Join instructor Courtney Clark for a fun evening of paint, pizza, and fun! Ava will take you through a colorful forest painting step-by-step. Pizza, breadsticks, and salad provided. Bring beverages of your choice! $25 per person and $20 for each friend/family member you bring and includes all the supplies you need to create your own colorful forest that you can hang together with your families creations. Recommended ages: 7+

Using papers, fabrics, stenciling, watercolors and scissors and glue, participants will create beautiful collages with an eye to balance, proportion, and composition. Create freely and end up with personalized creations. This is a fun class foray levels. Bring good scissors, glue stick and your favorite design mags and paper scraps. Start stashing now!

We will supply a 7 inch diameter clay pot or you may purchase 2 smaller ones and bring them in. Design fun art pots for your beloved plants with guidance. 4 hours. You may bring your own brushes and acrylic paint or use ours here at the studio.

In this 2-hour workshop led by artist in residence Jay Handy, participants will learn the technique of ‘chine colle’ printmaking. Jay will guide the group through the process of etching a Plexiglas matrix, as well as applying, embedding, and properly wiping off ink. Finally, the prepared plate will be sent through a press with a sheet of art paper, leaving the creator with their work of art to bring home. Artwork will feature historic and nostalgic images of Bay City.
